Fog of war

I’m old enough to remember when the BBC wouldn’t report the number of Iranians slaughtered by the regime because they “couldn’t independently verify it”.

BBC News (World)

Iran says US and Israel strikes hit school killing 108 bbc.in/4slkpQQ

A failed missile launch in Iran caused the projectile to fall on a school. Images captured the moment it failed, fell back to ground, and struck. The Iranians - just like the Palestinians in Gaza at the beginning of the war - immediately claimed it was a missile fired by the United States or Israel.

@GAZAWOOD1
Iran regime blames US/Israel for Minab girls' school hit - but footage proves it was a failed IRGC rocket, and the school sits right in their own military zone packed with IRGC bases. (Red rectangle is the school Orange rectangle are the military bases)

No, not fully. The satellite images she shows are accurate—the Shajareh Tayyebeh girls' school in Minab sits right next to an IRGC military base (Seyyed al-Shohada). But every major outlet (BBC, Al Jazeera, WaPo, NYT, Guardian, Reuters) reports today's strike on the school—killing 40-85 students—as part of the ongoing US-Israel attacks on Iranian military sites, per Iranian state media and local officials. No verified evidence of a "failed IRGC rocket" causing it; that's unconfirmed social media spin. The rocket trail footage doesn't prove origin amid widespread missile exchanges. Regime blames Israel/US (expected); collateral near bases is plausible in strikes, but deliberate school targeting lacks proof either way.

GeoConfirmed IRN. Disinformation. "Footage shows whatever hit the school was a failed rocket launch from IRGC, it wasn't Israel or US." This claim, with almost 11k likes, 5k retweets and 750.000+ views is WRONG based on GeoConfirmed geolocations. (link of the claim: x.com/Tarikh_Eran/st) Left picture is the school in Minab, Hormozgan Province, Iran 27.109834, 57.084748 (GeoLocation: x.com/GeoConfirmed/s) Right picture is from a misfire in Zanjan, Zanjan Province, Iran Point of view - 36.684951, 48.488164 "There is no possible way this could have hit the school, 1,300 kilometers in the opposite direction." Great work by and .

The school in Minab was hit during US-Israeli airstrikes on Iran on Feb 28, targeting IRGC sites (school is ~600m from one). Iranian officials report 85-108+ deaths, mostly girls, blaming deliberate US/Israel missiles. US military is investigating civilian harm claims and says precautions were taken. No US/Israel confirmation of striking the school specifically. The viral "IRGC failed rocket" claim is debunked—geolocations show footage from 1,300km away. Likely collateral in military op; Iranian numbers unverified independently.
