One view:
By contrast, a rational, intelligent view:
outside of outright marxism, this is one of the most expensive and damaging social lies ever told.
most homeless people are not homeless because they lack a house, they lack a house because they lack the traits one would need to acquire or keep one.
if you put them in a "free house" with "free healthcare" they just wreck it and their lives.
similarly, poverty is not some random outcome that just "happens" to you, it's the result of choices and traits and they do not go away if you institute UBI.
neither does violence. bad, low trust, high violence neighborhoods are not violent because they are poor, they are poor because they are violent.
did piles of PPP and covid money stop violence? nah. it just shifted it to spirit airlines counters.
the "progressives" have for 40 years been pushing these ideas that the people, their cultures, their morals and mores and natures are some sort of blank slate that "fixes" itself if you just allow the state to give them things these progressives think people need.
from the great society of johnson to affirmative action to homeless programs and war on poverty and disparate impact and new and aggressive forms of welfare this has done nothing to help towns and neighborhoods escape crime and violence. we've been backsliding horribly for 30 years.
modern "progressivism" is a cargo cult; all the causality is inverted.
we sent you to college and bought you a home and gave you piles of free stuff and free care, why are you right back to being broke and violent?
it's a pointless, counterproductive form of reality denial.
it denies that issue of character and accountability and presumes that these issues can be fixed with "stuff."
you might as well try to help a gambling addict by giving him more chips.
