Nothing is funnier than the Westerners who promote Poland because it is "normal"...
There is a specific genre of unintentional comedy: the "Based Westerner" who has come to Poland to escape the end of the world.
These Anglo-Saxon refugees, fleeing the gender-neutral bathrooms of London or the fentanyl zombies of San Francisco, treat Poland not as a real country with real problems, but as a Trad-Cath theme park. They walk around wide-eyed, filming clean subway stations and eating pierogi, convinced they have stumbled upon the Shire of Europe. They look at a nation held together by duct tape, trauma, real estate mortgages, and mistake the lack of rainbow flags for a deeply philosophical commitment to conservative order.
They look at a clean subway station in Warsaw and react with the religious awe of a peasant seeing a cathedral for the first time. Why? because in their "world-class" cities back home, public transport has evolved into a mobile homeless shelter and an open-air asylum. They walk through the city center at 11 PM and marvel that they haven't been mugged, stabbed, or lectured about their privilege, treating basic public safety as if it were some ancient, forgotten magic spell that only the Poles have managed to preserve. They are like starving men who find a stale crust of bread and declare it a Michelin-star meal; the bar for "civilization" in the West has been lowered so far that "not stepping on a used syringe" is now considered the height of luxury living.
These people come here and praise Poland for being "based" simply because society functions on the radical premise that criminals should go to jail, borders should exist, and biology is real. They stare at a homogeneous crowd of people just going to work and call it "paradise," which is a damning indictment of the social experiments that have turned their own neighborhoods into balkanized war zones of identity politics. Poland hasn't done anything extraordinary; it just didn't commit suicide. But to a Westerner drowning in the toxic waste of their own progressive utopias, a country that simply exists without hating itself looks like the promised land.
It is hilarious because they confuse our mediocrity with civilizational brilliance.
They see a lack of social justice riots and think it’s because we have solved the culture war; in reality, we are just too busy fighting a civil war over which television station is lying to us less.
They praise the "traditional family values," completely missing that the Polish family unit is often a matriarchal dictatorship run by a furious grandmother, fueled by guilt and potato salad.
